Agricultural equipment facing delays
QUINCY (WGEM) – As the harvest season progresses, some tractors have to remain parked due to supply problems.
James Weisenberger, managing director of Selby Implement, said some farmers have experienced long delays for certain tractor parts.
Delays vary by tractor type and retailer, with some basic parts such as motors and filters experiencing delays, while more modern, high-tech tractors are experiencing delays in getting semiconductors.
Weisenberger said the age of the tractor is a big factor in determining whether or not there are delays.
“It’s a bit of everything, it kind of depends on the model and its vintage…whether it’s a newer machine or an older machine. That’s a big part of the problem, the new stuff seems to be a little more out of stock than normal,” Weisenberger said.
He said to save time, he recommends farmers regularly check their equipment before starting a day’s work.
“If you spend a little extra time before you hit the field in the morning or evening…then a few pre-checks, extra grease here and there, maybe lube on the chains. Just take a little more time to check things out and make sure they’re ready to go,” Weisenberger said.
He said spending that extra time could prevent farmers from spending extra money.
Many parts have doubled or tripled in price, so keeping tractors and their parts in working order can save a lot of money.
