O’Ward Hustles to Top of Road America Speed Chart
Pato O’Ward was the fastest driver in Saturday morning practice for the Sonsio Grand Prix at Road America presented by AMR, setting a best lap of 1 minute, 45.2681 seconds in the #5 Chevrolet Arrow McLaren SP.
O’Ward was more than a second faster than his best lap in Friday practice, clocking 1:46.3426. It was good for the 10th of this session on the 14-turn, 4.048-mile road course, the longest in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES.

“We did a lot of really good work overnight,” O’Ward said. “We put her in the window. It’s much better than yesterday. Yesterday was really a mess.
“It’s such a long track where if you’re really struggling with a balance issue you’re going to lose so much. But if you have something you’re comfortable with and can handle, that’s is obviously rewarding. We’re looking forward to qualifying. Who knows what the reds (Firestone alternative tyres) will do?”
Qualifying for the NTT P1 award will take place at 1:45 p.m. (ET). Peacock Premium and the INDYCAR Radio Network will provide live coverage.
Will Power was second fastest at 1:45.3849 in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, followed by defending series champion Alex Palou at 1:45.4062 in the No. 10 The American Legion Honda.
Alexander Rossi, fastest Friday at 1:45.6027, was fourth this morning at 1:45.5576 in the #27 NAPA AUTO PARTS/AutoNation Honda. He spent considerable time in the pits during the 45-minute session with a clutch problem.
Two-time series champion Josef Newgarden finished fifth at 1:45.5744 in the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet.
